Soil Scientist
John S. Wah, Ph.D.

John Wah is trained in soil science (Ph.D. University of Maryland, M.S. University of Tennessee) and archaeology (B.A. Penn State). He has spent nearly 20 years focusing on the processes of archaeological site formation and reconstructing landscapes that influenced behavior in the past. He is the Principal Investigator for Matapeake Soil & Environmental Consultants, a co-founder of AXIS Research, Inc. - a 501(c)(3) non-profit using an interdisciplinary approach to archaeology, and has a Research Collaborator appointment at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. John’s research interests lie in the northeast and mid-Atlantic regions of the U.S. with special emphasis on loess deposition and landscape evolution on the Delmarva Peninsula, stratified archaeological sites in alluvial settings, and the earliest inhabitants of North America. John is always glad to find time to work with students in field and laboratory settings.
